This is About the Midwest Artist.

As a pandemic-driven project, Local Honey has since ceased daily operations to allow for new projects to take the stage. During our time together, we hosted numerous events, shared hundreds of pictures and stories while encouraging creativity, imagination, and community in a period that felt pretty dark and lonely.

We’re proud of what happened here and so grateful for all the people who were part of this time together.

Though we’re no longer accepting submissions, the gallery continues to share this sweetness with anyone who finds it. Here’s what we set out to do:

Local Honey | Midwest is a small, independent digital publication and a growing community of Midwesterners who are curious about artistic expression. The spirit of this project is life-affirming creativity and sharing.

Think of it like a potluck. You’re gathering with friends and family. Everyone’s bringing something to the table, and your single contribution, like a miracle, multiplies into an entire plate of food.

In the same way any honest potluck would be silly to turn down the dish of a professional chef, professional artists are, of course, welcome. We love what you do and will likely faun over your contributions, but to be clear, we’re open to any level of skill and degree of talent here. This is, after all, a potluck, and you’re free to skip the dishes that aren’t for you.

The Local Honey dream is to share a piece of creative work from every living person who has ever called the Midwest home. (Don’t ask us how we’d ever be able to track or prove that, but the sentiment was real.)
