Chicago

Artist: Tammy Tsonis

It seems a dream,
As I stand among the hustle of the city,
The murmur of friendly voices,
The sound of trains in the distance.
I’ve been away too long it seems,
In some distant lands, where the ocean meets the sky,
Where cornfields sway, rustling in the autumn winds.
I’ve been away it seems,
Long enough to miss the changes,
Some present, some gone with fleeting winds.
I knew you’d wait for me,
While giant skyscrapers stood tall,
And fortresses of stone,
Relived your treasures past.

You’d welcome me once more,
Among the roar of trains,
As east and west unite,
In savory aromas on your busy streets.

As I lay my weary legs back home again,
A familiar tune plays in the distance,
A voice of words I do not know,
Yet only seem to bring me comfort.

You are a place of many tongues, of global food, of pride and strength.
A place that remains forever strong in culture.
You are Chicago, a place unlike no other,
A city I often dreamt of,
When journeys proved too long and weary.

A place I always call home.
